Poppy War

Written by Jack Morris

I have seen the golden poppy,
long ago in my telling youth,
yet beyond on those green hills,
lies an awe that compares not,
to the disjointed fragments,
pastoral glimpses,
of a year that does not seem whole.

That majestic awe is the birth chuckle,
amongst the old amazons precious stones,
giver of the title of golden state,
acros the vales and hills of this land,
so close in touch with the ocean.

Those golden marvels that open their eyes,
to lap the juices of sunlight,
taste the flavors of sage scented breeze,
hold with warming tight embrace,
the dew of morning...
poor creatures,
suffering only to close their tender lids in twillight,
huddling in great companies of family,
to weather the silken night.

I to walk about thier moonlit avenues,
with slow brotherly step,
pondering wars of ogre and goblin.

There is no gold in the american flag,
no orange of twllight nimbus,
upon the tassels of roman helmets.

The ogre spear points,
gleam white in the sun,
wishing the red of blood,
dripping down their shafts,
and blue are their faces,
like slow moving glaciers,
cold hot beyond measure,
now breaking upon the domains,
of that goblin kings.

The goblins in their subterrean caves,
licking their steel,
promising their blades the taste of toturous revenge,
they will break upon their foes,
the whips of deciet,
thunder of storms to forge matyrs of old empires,
the seats of knowledge long lost in the in the lengthening days.

Yet goblin nor ogre scents the golden poppy,
upon their tongues,
the magics of Aquarius bidden to dwell,
in the anticipatory shadows of the world,
the young few whom must decisions must make,
or be cured under the desert sun.

Turn left or right call the commanders,
as directions come,
instinctually turn as the orders fall,
for country,
family and honour,
right the wrongs of tyrants,
with historical pens of justice...
and forget the poppies of California feilds,
which will soon wilt,
and fade from present memory.
