RE: RE: Let's get going

Dart nodded and started to follow. There had to be a place somewhere that could set them on the right path. He looked at the wolf and shook his head. He whistled and the great eagle soared over head and knew to follow them. Dart walked thinking to himself. What an odd group. Could be worse though.

the Inn Farm
by Cwilliams992PM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 23 Apr 2007 23:02

Vidian slowed as he neared the small inn. It looked as if the sun was beginning to set and they had little time before night. He reared up at the top of the small hill overlooking the half farm half inn. He ordered Draggo to stay and trotted down the small dirt rode towards the inn. An young boy came around from the back of the house with a few pieces of wood in his hands. " You planning to stay the night, milord?" The boy asked. " Possibly, do you have enough room for two more of my companions?" Vidian asked with a smile as he looked down on the boy. Couldn't be older than 14 vidian thought. " Yes milord. We have plenty of room and a stable out back for your horse." A small smile crept across the mercenaries face before he said, " Allright thank you, have two rooms ready when i return." Vidian then reared up and galloped back towards Red and Dart.

Withdrawn
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 23 Apr 2007 23:18

As Red and Dart walked along with the wolf, and the eagle flying overhead, Red felt oddly shameful. These men had pretty much agreed to her company without question, a mere raggedy girl, whom they knew nothing about. And as the day wore on, she felt herself lapsing back into her old attitude of silence and of being withdrawn. She walked not next to Dart, but a bit behind him and to the side, looking off into the woods or to the ground now and then. Her eyes flicked up when she heard Vidian coming back their way.

Dart nodded to himself and was continuing on when he noticed Red. He turned to face her. "Is everything alright?" Dart slowed to her pace and walked next to her. "You've been quiet. You can trust me if you want to."

Strangers
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 24 Apr 2007 23:43

Red's eyes shifted to Dart a moment, but then looked steadily back to the woods. "Nothing's wrong. I'm alright. Really." She was silent for a while, but still felt him looking at her. Her neck reddened as she got uncomfortable, and she felt compelled to speak. "I fell out of a tree!" she said suddenly. "When you first met me, I mean. How can you be so trusting of me?" She looked a bit sadly at him. "I don't know who you are, and you don't know me."

Earned trust.
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 24 Apr 2007 23:56

Dart laughed. "I'm trusting because I have little choice. I have my own intuition, but think about this. Have you been a threat to my life since we met? No." He was answering for her. "Now. I have no idea who I am, and people who don't want me dead seem to be worth something. Friendship, or at least a small amount of trust is all I can offer." A smile appeared on his face. "When we met you fell out of a tree. You weren't looking for me, and you've been kind enough. You've earned your trust."

Earned trust...not earned
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 25 Apr 2007 00:07

Oh, no...what have I gotten myself into? she thought as her face turned even redder, contrasting with her freckles and messy red hair. He said he trusted her, yet she was keeping the largest part of her identity from him, and from Vidian. Well, she told herself forcefully, that's something you have to do if you don't want to be caught. So she just smiled shakily. "Uh...yeah."

Don't worry
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 25 Apr 2007 00:22

"Don't worry. None of us know each other well, and I could have the most secrets hidden from you. I just wish I knew what they were." Dart's hand slid to his blade for a moment and then left it as he approached Vidian. "Have we got a room for the night?"

Toll
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Thu, 3 May 2007 23:02

Red looked around again. There was just something that wasn't right. The trees surrounding them were not calm, and Red had a prickling feeling on the back of her neck. "Dart?" she said softly, for some reason thinking it necessary to speak in undertones. "I think something's..."

The rest of her sentence was drowned out by a sudden sound of hoofbeats, and they turned quickly to see a group of twenty horsemen bearing down on them from the trees. They were wearing armor, and appeared to be soldiers. They encircled Red and Dart, so that even though Red leaped behind Dart, she looked around nervously. The leader came forward, and the soldiers all smiled, not kindly. His hand rested casually on his sword hilt. "You have to pay a toll to walk on this path to Anon," he grinned through his helmet.

False identity
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Thu, 3 May 2007 23:18

Dart looked at the warriors and shook his head. Dart mumbled, "Did we get turned around on the way south?" He looked at all of the men. Whatever happened, they expected them to go to Anon now. He thought about Red's personality, and played with it to his advantage. "I am heading north to see if I may become a knight. This one tends to things since my squire seems to have vanished."

Dart looked around at all of the men. "I suppose you'll still want that toll though. Damn ruffians." Dart reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of various gold coins. He watched the leader's eyes widen at the sight of the ten coins in his hand. "I trust this will be enough?"

The horseman looked at the handful of coins for a moment, and then dismounted. He walked forward slowly and haughtily, and reached to take the coins from Dart's hand. Red looked around Dart's shoulder, watching him with frightened eyes. The soldier smirked as he tossed the coins in his hand. "Might be enough...how much do ye have?" The others around them laughed quietly.

Need a miracle
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Thu, 3 May 2007 23:54

Dart smirked slightly. "I'm sorry, but that's all I can spare." He glanced around at the others and put his hand on his blade. This wasn't good. Now would be a good time for a miracle...

Not precisely a miracle...
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Fri, 4 May 2007 00:08

The soldier smiled wider, and stashed the coins in his pocket. "I didn't ask how much you can spare." He drew his sword, and a few on the horses mimicked him. "I asked how much you have."

Red, uncharacteristically, suddenly grew cross. She had seen the same sort of greedy men, stuck-up soldiers, at Sinat's estate. She bit her lip and tried to calm herself down, but her heartbeat quickened, and she began to smell that strange smell again, coming from nowhere. Suddenly there was a sharp crack of a noise at the foot of one of the horses, and a bright flame of light leaped into the air. The circle of horses all reared up, and with their riders unable to control them, they went tearing off back into the woods. The leader looked back at the stupefied Red and Dart, before running off after them. Red stepped a few feet away from Dart, and stared at the spot where she had somehow produced a twisting form of light. She looked at Dart, clearly afraid. "I...I didn't mean to."

Dart stared with his mouth open for a few moments before he realized he had to react. Quickly his bow was out and within moments the leader had an arrow through his throat. Dart walked over to the dead man and took back his coins, ignoring Red for a moment.

After emptying the man of his coins he looked over at Red. "Is this why you've been so distant?" He walked over to her and smiled. "We seem to have an unusual amount of luck when it comes to surviving." After a short laugh he looked into Red's eyes. "Don't worry. I think that it's a good thing you can do... whatever that was. I suppose I owe you a suit of armor or something for getting us out of this." He took the coins he'd taken from the man and handed half of them to her. "You helped, you get part of the spoils."

Too nice
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Fri, 4 May 2007 00:27

Red pushed the coins back into his hand. "No, no, I can't." She was still flustered. "You've already given me this cloak and knife, I can't accept anymore. Really," she closed his fingers over the coins and stepped away, and sat down against a tree, staring straight ahead and making jittery movements. She glanced up at Dart. "Please stop being so kind to me. I lied to you." And she found herself, to her horror, telling him the truth. "I'm not just some wanderer, I'm really a slave. I ran away a week or so ago. And I don't even know what I am!" she banged her fists against the ground, then let them lie there limply as she looked around. She didn't see Vidian or the wolves anywhere, perhaps they had left when the soldiers surrounded her and Dart.
