How rude / I owe you
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 00:21

Karna sat at a table alone in the corner, her eyes narrowed as she looked around the room. She wore an amused smile on her face as she looked over towards a game of cards at the table next to her. She could see under the table, and saw that two of them were cheating. She hoped a fight would break out soon.

Her table jolted under her elbow, and she looked up to see the man who had bumped into it. By his attire, he appeared to be a mercenary...and he wore a coy smile on his face. Karna dropped hers. "So lady...whatcha doin sitting over here all by yerself?" He gestured over to a table were there sat several other mercenaries, smiling eagerly over at her. "Come and have adrink with us."

She surpressed the desire to roll her eyes. "No thanks, I'm fine where I am." She tipped her jug of ale to her lips. The mercenary frowned, and stood silent a moment. Then he made a grab for her, catching her wrist. "Don't be rude miss," he smiled wider.

"If you don't want to get hurt sir, let me go." She said this very quietly. A few people gave them looks, but looked away. Karna guessed that these mercenaries had free reign in these parts, and no one would dare stand up to them.

--

The woman's eyes opened slowly, again blinking, trying to figure out where she was. She groaned and lifted a hand up to her face, fighting off a headache. Turning her head to the side, she saw her mare tied up and drinking. But when she turned to her other side, she saw a man in armor sitting there.

She tried to figure out just by looking at him whether he was friend or foe. But she realized that she was not bleeding anymore, and that solved her mystery. She still could not bring herself to sit up, so she just smiled from where she lay. "I believe I owe you my life."

Powers
by fuge_spazzPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 00:38

The vampire stood up. The drama on the outside of the tavern had ended. He wanted to watch the drama inside.

It's hard to explain how one discovers there powers, but for the undead it's almost instinctive. He fell from the top of the tavern and landed infront of the door transformed into the shape of a black wolf. However he altered his image lightly to look more domestic as if someone owned this dog, wondering into the tavern he sat to the side. People passed by and pet him. He simply whined happily to them.

No debts/Into the bar
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 00:48

Kai didn't even look at her when he answered.

"Forget it. I don't need debts."

He put some food and water down next to her.

"Consider yourself lucky I was feeling charitable today."

After a moment he realized his armor was still crimson. He mumbled again and the crimson orb reappeared in his hand and he slipped it into a pouch on his belt. His armor returned to normal. He looked at the woman with a cold stare.

"You saw nothing."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryusei walked into the bar a few minues later. He hadn't seen the vampire or he would have reacted to the wolf as he entered. Instead he sat at the counter and order an ale. He looked around and noticed the woman was having trouble with some mercenaries. He decided it would be best to watch for a few minutes.

Static touch / Karma
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 21:19

The mercenary laughed, and started to pull on her wrist. But he lept back with a yelp, releasing her, and stared at her with a shocked expression. A purple spark of light had forced his hand off hers. Karna glared at him, and he backed away hurriedly.

Karna sighed and leaned back, watching the man go back to his comrades and whisper to them, with furtive glances over at her every now and then. She did not care. If they started any more trouble, she would simply have to cause more than they did.

A dog brushed past her table and she gave it a quick glance. She did not reach down to pet it though, and took a sip from her ale. Thinking she felt someone's eyes on her, she looked around the room discreetely, and found a man looking at her. She quickly looked away, not letting him now that she was aware of him.

--

The silver haired and eyed woman dropped her smile at his cold stare. She shut her mouth and did not say a word. She was not afraid of him, she just could not think of a reply. Instead she nodded slightly, and reached out to pull the food toward her.

After a few bites, she began to feel strength returning to her. She sat up and looked back to the man. Even if he was being hostile, he had healed her...though she did not know how. "I am Karma." She sat expecting an answer.

Interesting/False identity
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 21:50

Ryusei watched the lightning with surprise. This was interesting. Maybe this was worth it. He reached back and felt that his sword was still there. Good. He continued to sip his ale watching people to see what would happen next.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kai sat there for a moment. It was just his luck that he had to rescue the kind and friendly type. She introduced herself as Karma... He decided it wasn't worth giving out his name. He used his mercenary name instead.

"You can call me Zaire."

He thought he heard a sound and turned, but it was nothing. He looked back and studied the woman for a minute.

"How did you get hurt like that?"

They'll be back / Wrong place, wrong time
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 22:50

The mercenaries finally left, the leader glancing stonily back at Karna before walking out the door. She knew they would keep their distance for a while. But men, especially the arrogant soldier types, never liked to have their pride hurt. She knew she would see them again.

She finished off her ale. When the glass was empty, she grew bored. The cheater at the table next to her had gotten away with it, and came out of the game several gold coins richer. A pity, she would have liked to see a fight.

Karna still felt the eyes on her, and sighed. She was tired of being looked at. Perhaps she could have some fun before dawn?

She stood up, her movement graceful and flowing. She was doing this on purpose of course. She walked slowly to the door and paused before walking outside...knowing the eyes were still on her. When outside, she walked slowly down the street.

--

Karma finished off the small amount of welcome food Zaire had given her. She felt to her side with a hand, remembering what had happened with a grimace.

"Well, I suppose I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. You know of the mercenary wars raging through the desert?" She had a troubled look. "I was just travelling on the road, and a group of mercenaries stopped me. They insisted that I either pay a toll...or come back with them to their camp. I refused."

She sighed. "I...was able to defend myself." She hesitated, deciding not to tell this stranger her true nature. "But one was very skilled with his swords...and all I could do was ride away as fast as I could. I guess at some point I lost conciousness."

"Then you found me," she concluded cheerfully. "And I'm sure at some point you shall be rewarded for your good deed. It's karma." She laughed.

RE: Wrong place, wrong time
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:14

Kai (Zaire) shook his head. The woman had been in a tough situation. He became even more serious.

"I don't expect rewards. You are foolish. You're trusting me when you hardly know me. One good deed doesn't make a person good. "You don't even know my intentions."

He laughed.

"Like I said earlier, you're lucky I was feeling charitable, and that even though I'm a mercenary, I'm not from around here."

He sighed this time.

"Think you can stand and walk a bit?"

Sunlight shortly
by fuge_spazzPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:22

The vampire whined in his dog form, he could sence the sun, he would have to leave. Brushing past the woman as she leaves the tavern he rushes into nearby allyway, from there he transforms into a pack of bats and flys off towards his coffin.

The bats fly over the horse and their friends as he makes his way to the coffin to rest for the day.

Intentions?
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:24

What did he mean by intentions? Karma took Zaire's words to heart. Not that she needed to...she had experienced betrayal too many times in her life.

But bad luch was normally matched equally by good luck. For some reason, though she had been through a lot, she remained positive. That was perhaps the biggest difference between her and her...opposite.

She tentatively got to her feet. Finding she was able to stand, she nodded and smiled. "Sure. I think I can go a ways."

Another form of travel
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:32

Kai looked up and felt the dark orb react as a pack of bats flew overhead. Something wasn't right... He removed it and looked around. After a moment he frowned and then returned his attention to the girl.

"Good. It won't be far."

He walked over to the horse and untethered it. He walked over to Karma and handed her the reigns. Finally he looked into the black orb and chanted a few words that were barely audible. His armor was black now.

"We're going to town, and it will be a fast trip."

Moonset
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:38

Karma patted her horse on the nose, then tugged gently on the reins and began to walk slowly after Zaire. Far off she could see some lights of the town. But they were barely visible, because the eastern sky was turning a pale yellow, threatening dawn.

Karma turned a little alarmedly towards the wester horizong. The desert provided a flat vista in all directions, with a few hills and scrubby excuses for woods. Mostly cactai. So she was able to see the moon set. Her hair turned from a silver to a dull white, her eyes to a bluish hue. She blinked, hoping that Zaire had not seen the change.

But on second thought, it did not really matter if he did. He himself was unusual, so what did it matter if he knew she was too?

Another world
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:48

Kai (Zaire) kept walking until he found the large rock he'd come from earlier. He paid little attention to the girl with him. She looked a little different, but lighting can do that.

"Hope you're ready."

He tightly grabbed her arm and the horses reigns and pulled them into the cold shadows. The usual chill surrounded him and there seemed to be no exit from the darkness. Kai pulled them along anyway. After what felt like an eternity, but wasn't even a minute they emerged from another shadow by a building.

"It always feels awkward the first time. Sit down and regain yor senses if you need to."

Powerful
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 2 Oct 2006 23:54

Karma had almost felt like she was chocking in the darkness. All she could feel was Zaire's grip on her arm. When her eyes finally refocused, she leaned against the horse for a moment, catching her breath. Then she stoked its neck, calming it, for it had been spooked by the strange method of travel.

She looked at the man with a questioning look in her eye. So he really was powerful. That was probably how he had healed her. Hm. She wondered if her powers were a match for his. Hopefully she would never need to find out. And besides, she needed to save her strength for who she was really looking for.

"What are we doing here?" she said, looking curiously around at the street. The drunks of the corner seemed to not have noticed two people and a horse appear out of nowhere.

Resting
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 3 Oct 2006 00:07

"This is the closest town for miles."

He quietly mumbled the words and hid the black orb again. He studied her for a minute.

"That power, that you aren't going to talk about, is centuries old. I'm looking for the rest of it. Without the stones I'm just a skilled warrior."

He looked around and found the local inn.

"We can rest and eat a decent meal over there. Then you can decide what you will do."

Not here
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 3 Oct 2006 00:12

Once again Karma sensed the slight undercurrent of a threat in his voice. So she went silent again, and lead her horse on behind Zaire.

They reached the inn he had pointed to, and after Karma had lead her horse around to the stables, they went inside. The atmosphere was smokey and hazy, and smelling of cactus juice and ale. It did not bother Karma. She glanced around, searching the faces for one that mirrored her own in darkness. She did not see one, and she let out a breath.
