Out of the city
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 21:41

Lenai smiled evily. "Oh yeah. Watch this"

She tunred her head to her shoulder and whispered something. Then she looked at Isaac, held a finger to her lips, and pointed toward the guards.

They were having a hearty conversation. "So then I says to him, if you want to keep that hand, you'd better pu-AAAHHH!!" Suddenly Ember appeared right in front of his face. Another second later, and she disappeared again.

The guards unsheathed their swords. "Did you see that?" Each of them was wide-eyed and huddling together. "What was it?"

'It' appeared again sitting on one guard's helmet. His friend yelped and swung his sword wildy at the man's head, mission by inches. Ember was gone again. "What was that for?" The guy asked his terrified friend.

"It's a DRAGON!" Ember appeared again flying over all their heads. Her eyes were fiery, and she breathed a small stream of fire down on them. The guards had had enough, and ran down a street with Ember chasing them, yelling about fantom dragons.

Flight from the city
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 22:00

Isaac couldn't contain his laughter as he watched the guards run down the street. It was one of the funniest sights he'd seen.

"That was great. Let's go."

They ran towards the gates and found them to be left open. They had escaped the city. The river would lead them straight to the forest. This was great. As they left the city Isaac turned to Lenai.

"Ember can find us again, right?"

The forest was about a mile down the river. There weren't going to be any guards, but a few travellers might see them. Then again, who would believe he was still alive and had escaped the city?

"Sure, I told her to find us in the forest." Lenai said as she began walking along the riverbank, laughing still. "She'll chase them until she loses interest. It's been awhile since she's had fun like that."

They passed a few travellers on the banks of the river, most of them trying to sell them a pendant to ward of spirits, or an elixir to stay beautiful forever, or nonsense like that. But soon the crowds thinned out, and the first sparse trees appeared. Lenai led them under their shade as the sun crept toward the horizon.

"Well, lets find a decent shelter shall we? Then we'll figure out the next step."

-

Ember flew lazily over the city, a small dragon smile on her face. Guards were funny to her. She was flying towards the forest.

She was in such a good mood that she did not realize she was invisible. Dark eyes in a street below spotted her, and narrowed. What was a dragon doing in the city?, the elite guard wondered. He urged his horse forward, following the dragon.

Into the forest.
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 23:35

It was getting late. The sun was setting, and they needed shelter. Isaac felt useless. He had rarely been out of the city. He had read a few maps, but he'd never really travelled except with a guard.

They'd searched the woods for a while, and couldn't find much. The sun was almost gone now, and he was nervous again. The thought that he was safe and getting help held some comfort, but not a lot.

"You said you've been here before. Where did you find shelter last time?"

A forgotten place
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 23:45

Lenai thought back to the last time Lenai had been near this particular city, and got into trouble with some guards. "Well, I remember finding a sort of overgrown path, and I just sort of followed it to a long forgotten place."

She peered around. "I must have come into the forest at a different location last time, becasue I don't see any sign of it. But I do remember it was in this direction." She pointed a little north of East, deep into the woods, and began walking.

"Aha!" Lenai smiled, proud of herself, and bent down to show Isaac a few broken cobblestones. "There aren't may left, but if you keep an eye out for them you can follow a trail." She looked at him. "What's really exciting is at the end, but I'll let that be a surprise for you." She winked and started heading deeper, deeper into the trees.

"Wait...What?"

Isaac followed Lenai down the path slightly confused by what she'd said. He watched the ground carefully to make sure none of the old stones were missed. The path seemed to go on for a while, and he was finding it harder to continue. The entire day must have worn him out more than he thought.

The sun was almost gone by the time they could begin to see what was at the end of the path. Lenai said it would be a surprise... His hand moved closer to his sword out of caution, but he knew he couldn't put up a great fight if he had to. Not after everything he'd been through today.

"Is this it?"

Welcome to
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 00:19

Lenai walked up to a dense line of trees and forest growth that formed a thick barrier that couldn't be seen through. In front of it stood a single large stone pillar.

She smiled and placed her hand on the pillar. "This? No, no. This is not the surprise." She walked behind the pillar and up to a large bush, pushing some branches aside. She looked back at Isaac, and led him to the other side.

An amazing sight met their eyes. Tumbled down stone buildings and monuments were found left and right. Some were left standing. Broken roads told of a busy past. Although the trees and brush had invaded in past generations, one could tell that a fair sized and flourishing city had been once been hidden in this forest.

"Welcome to the Ruins of Hanwen." Lenai said

The Ruins
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 00:29

"Wow."

Isaac couldn't hide his amazement. In all of his life he couldn't even have dreamt that there was once another city so close to Galtar. Everything was so old, and it looked like it had once been a major city. Being so close to the river would have made it a trade center.

He walked around a bit and looked inside some of the buildings that were still standing.

"How could anyone have missed this place in the forest? It's huge."

He looked up at some of the statues to see what kind of culture these people had, and noticed that several stars had appeared in the sky. That immediately reminded him that they had been looking for shelter, and that it was late. Maybe he could explore a bit more in the morning. He looked around one last time before finding Lenai again.

"Which buildings are safe

The hunting Truely begins
by fuge_spazzPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 00:30

Klyde's head hurt. Last he remembered, he was hanging out in the tavern, sure his visit was less then legal, but it all should of went acording to plan. Next thing he knows he's unconcious. Now he wakes up in a dark room. "Rise young one, I know your awake." He desided it was better to play uncouncious. Suddenly, HISSSSS "AHHH MY SHOULDER!!!" Somthing burned, and burned badly! "I'm going to get to the point. We believe that the little brat may be still alive" Klyde interupts "what little br..AHHHHHH" HISSSSS "Don't talk, just listen. You've been cursed, the tatoo on your shoulder will make sure that if you don't finish the job, well...you seem to get the point." Before klyde can make any comment, a hand touches his head. He feels a shock and suddenly several memeries of one person go through his head. No matter what he does, he cannot get the face out of his memory. He crings onto the floor, in alot of pain. "get him a horse, send him into the forest." That's when klyde passes out again.

The guard who had seen Ember had followed her to the edge of the forest. That was odd, but he had dared not venture further. Instead, he had alerted the head guard who was know taking over at the palace. He had in turn said, "I know just the person to send in there..."

An hour later and the head guard was satisfied with the way things were going as a horse and a rider entered the forest.

-

"There should be what used to be a healer's hut around here. It was nice and sturdy last time, not crumbly at all." She walked past some trees and more ruins, turning a corner. "Here we go"

The building was large although one story. There were rusted remains of bottles and healing books in one corner. Lenai walked through the doorway and stood looking around. "I'm not entirely sure what happened to this city, maybe a war or something. But before that happened, this place had a wealth of knowledge." She bent down to pick up a healing book as Ember flew through a hole in the wall.

Settling in
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 00:57

Isaac still had a look of amazement in his eyes as he looked around the healers place. He picked up a couple of books and slipped them into his cloak. If he was going to be in the wilderness, he'd better start learning how to survive.

"Looks like we might need a fire."

Isaac left the hut for a few minutes and returned with some dead branches he'd found around the building and put them in the old fireplace.

"Back up. I don't want to hurt you."

Isaac bent over the pile of sticks and tried to create a small fire. It started smoothly. The fire began to form on the pille of wood, and it looked like it would be alright. Then Isaac started to lose his control of it. He pushed himself backwards just in time to see the fire flare up where his face had been. His face turned red in embarassment for a moment and he looked at Lenai with a nervous smile on his face.

"See? I'm not very good at this. Do we need anything else?"

ARRRRGH!!
by fuge_spazzPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 01:04

Klyde rode the horse leaning forward obviously suffering. As he approches the guard, the guard gives him the information about the dragon. Before he left the guard made a comment about the takeover, a joke if you will about the death of the fammily. He didn't hear all of it, but he would not hear it. He grabed the man by the helmit, A small kzat could be heard, before the man begin to vibrate, small sparks comming off of him, before finnaly collapsing out of the helmit, he tossed the helmit asside. He would not accept anyone commenting poorly on his target. Not to mention he was extremely pissed! He nudge his horse to tred slowly through the forest. Knowing that the dead guard would at least, form a crowd slowing any movement they intend to make back towards the city the next day, should he not find him.

Next step
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 01:16

"No, we should probably get some sleep though. Oh, food would be a good idea." She whistled and Ember flew to her shoulder. Lenai whsipered to her, and she flew back out the hole in the wall.

Several minutes later, the rabbits Ember had caught were roasting on the fire. Lenai sat warming herself with Ember curled around her shoulders and neck. "About our next step, I was thinking. Perhaps, as this place is pretty well hidden, it would be a good opportunity for some training? Maybe work on you mage skills, and I can learn to use some weapons?"

Isaac sat back a distance from the fire he was still on edge after he'd lost control of it. He let out a sigh and looked at Lenai and Ember. They had the right idea. They'd gotten used to this life already. Everytime he tried to do something he ended up almost hurting himself.

He thought for a moment as Lenai mentioned training.

"Some more practice couldn't hurt though. What kind of weapon do you want to use? Greatswords are heavy, but I've got an extra one. Unless you want Ember to fly back to the city and steal you a different weapon?"

Ember the thief
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 1 Aug 2006 01:39

Lenai stroked Ember's tail. "Well, I've always wanted to use a bow and arrow. Some of my people knew how to use one." She chewed thoughtfully on some rabbit. "And a knife is easy to use, and would be handy to have."

She spoke to Ember again, but this time Ember just yawned. Lenai poked her and spoke a little more loudly. Ember gave Lenai the evil eye and a tiny hiss, flying into a corner and curling up again.

Shrugging, Lenai said "She said she'll do it tomorrow, but she's too tired right now to fly all the way back. What's more, dragons are magical and can carry almost anything, but it is still hard work for a small one.

Lenai yawned. "She does have the right idea though." She scooted away from the fire and curled up on the edge of its warmth. Before she fell asleep she looked at Isaac with another strange expression.

"This has been the roughest day of your life, I know. Remember, I lost my father the same way you lost your parents." She blinked away the vision in front of her eyes.

"I'm not telling you to get over it. I'm just saying you'll feel better if you stop thinking about it for now, and sleep." And she did.
