The Rebellion
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 20:30

Isaac was returning home from his sword lessons. He wasn't supposed to be learning swordsmanship, but he did anyway. His parents wanted him to learn to control the winds and fire like they did. He didn't want to, but they forced him to learn it. In response to that he'd sneak out of the palace to learn how to use a sword.

As he approached the palace, however, he noticed things were more out of place as he got closer to his home. When he finally reached the palace the gates were open. Several of the servants were running out in complete terror. Isaac hurried inside. Something was wrong.

As he entered the palace he saw a group of knights, but they noticed him as well and drew their weapons.

"Get him!"

Isaac drew his great sword and cut through a couple of them, but there were more of them. He tried to focus but had a difficult time. His fireball exploded too close to him and threw him backwards leaving him burned in several places. One of the knights wasn't very lucky and was killed by the blast.

Isaac took his chance to run during the confusion caused by the newly started fire, and went further into the palace. He ducked behind corners and objects to avoid the knights who were commiting treason. He mad his way through the halls to his parents room.

When he got there he heard voices. They were arguing with someone. He opened the door a crack and looked inside. That was a bad idea. He opened it and there were several charred bodies and a few uncoscious ones as well. His parents had put up a good fight, however, he was just in time to see his parents getting killed by the leader of the royal guard.

Isaac was terrified. He ran, avoiding the knights, until he got to a familiar hallway. Then he dove into a hidden passage that he had found a while ago. When he escaped the castle at the other end of the passage he knew he couldn't go back. There was a rebellion and it was over. He ran back into town hoping he could find cover in the dark side roads of the city until he could escape.

Lenai walked past a palace that seemed to have a lot of commotion going on within its walls. She glanced at Ember and nodded. The small dragon disappeared into thin air, and Lenai crept up to the gate.

The gate was unguarded, which should not have been. Lenai walked just aways within the walls, enough to see a few guards emerging from the palace with bloody weapons, celebrating. Lenai had seen enough, and snuck back out the gate.

She was disgusted. This scene was all too familiar to her. Just as Lenai wondered if there were any targets who had escaped, as she had, she saw a figure dart into the narrow streets of the local town. She narrowed her eyes and decided to follow him.

Recovering
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 22:21

Isaac ran for a while through the streets. Few people would realize who he was. The son of two powerful mages would not normally carry a great sword, even more unlikely would be two.

He continued running until he couldn't any more. He sat down and leaned against the building. He had a couple of burns on his face, and a few on his arm. He wished he'd payed more attention to his parents lessons. He could barely control fire, and even less the winds. What kind of idiot was he? He blew up a fireball less than two feet away from him.

This was a mess. He'd have to figure out how to reclaim his throne. Those knights had been the most trusted warriors in the kingdom. They were also the strongest. Everything was hopeless. He looked up for a moment, and thought he saw a shadow coming from around the corner. He drew his great sword and stood ready.

The girl appears
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 22:37

Lenai followed the young man until he came to a stop. She hid behind a corner, but realized too late that the sun was behind her and he knew she was there. No use hiding now.

She checked to make sure Ember was still invisible, and stepped out and around the corner. She was about five feet away from the burned boy. Arms crossed, she stood there silently for a moment. Then she spoke in a soft voice. "You are from the palace, aren't you?"

Friend or Foe?
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 22:47

The girl stepped around the corner and Isaac backed up. He was terrified. Would she hand him over to those knights? He wouldn't go. He couldn't die yet. Not without revenge.

"Who are you?"

He gripped his sword tighter and made ready to attack, but he wasn't in any condition to fight, and was still completely terrified.

"If you're with those knights... I can still put up a good fight."

He backed up trying to look cautious, but his eyes still showed fear.

Calm down
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 23:13

Lenai was sure glad Ember was invisible, or this guy would be really scared. "Relax, do I look like a guard to you?" She smiled, and knelt in front of him. "I followed you because I was worried about you. You look like you have some burns there" She pointed to his arms, face, and...well, his body.

RE: Calm down
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 23:37

"You expect me to be calm!?"

Isaac was angry, confused, and nervous all at the same time.

"I just had my life destroyed by a bunch of knights, for who knows what reason. I watched my parents die, and my home get destroyed. These burns came from when I had to defend myself. Compared to my parents I'm a poor mage, but a fireball still hurts."

He backed up another step, but didn't lower the blade yet.

"Calm down..."

Isaac started laughing. He had reached an emotional limit of sorts, and was almost having a complete break down.

"Nothing is that simple. It never is. You may not be a guard, but what's stopping you from trying to turn me in for a price?"

The dragon waits
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 30 July 2006 23:52

Lenai dropped her smile. A weird expression crossed her face, and she stood. She looked at the ground for a minute before looking back up at the guy. "I'm not turning you in. Believe me or not, it's your choice."

She turned away, pausing to look back at him over her shoulder. "You are not the only one who has lost what is theirs. I know it hurts. Do not misunderstand me." She paused. "I am Lenai. If you want to talk, say Ember." As she turned away she spoke in a different language to the seemingly empty air beside her. Wait with him. Lead him to the tavern if he calls your name.

She gave a short smile to the boy before disappearing around the corner from where she came.

what to do?
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 00:03

Isaac paced back and forth for a few moments. Lenai... Who was she? Was it worth trusting her? He'd lost everything. Did he expect a wandering stranger to help? He let out a long sigh. and put his sword away. If worse came to worse he could let loose another wild fireball and take the two of them out. Then no one could say he went quietly.

"Ember?"

Suddenly a dragon appeared in the air. Isaac let out a short yell and fell backwards onto the ground.

"Where did you come from?"

The dragon started to fly off.

"What? Wait!"

He ran after it for several minutes. It seemed to know where it was going. Eventually it led him to a tavern and waited outside the door. With nothing else to go on Isaac opened the door. The dragon vanished and he walked inside. He closed the door behind him and looked around for a moment. Lenai was waiting inside. He swallowed his pride and approached her.

"What did you want to talk about?"

In private
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 00:16

Lenai was glad to see him. She beamed and grabbed his hand. "Not here, somewhere more private" She led him to a staircase in the far corner of the tavern and went up it. The tavern doubled as an inn, and Lenai had stayed there the past night. She opened the door at the end of the hall, pushed the guy in and shut it.

Their were two chairs, a bed, and a table. Lenai sat down in one chair and pushed the other toward the guy. "Have you heard of the dragon tamers?"

Isaac was surprised as she dragged him up the stairs into a room. He sat down when he was offered th chair, and then was surprised again to hear her first question.

"Dragon Tamers? I think I might have heard that somewhere before, but I don't know much about them except they...well...tame dragons. Just like the name implies."

Isaac thought for a moment.

"My guess is that you are one, or else you wouldn't have asked. Why, though"

Painful tale
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 00:29

Lenai smiled as always. "Congradulations, you guessed correct" She whispered something over her shoulder, and the small white Ember appeared there. "You have already met Ember, but I don't believe she knows your name. If you prefer to keep that information to yourself, I'll understand"

Her smile left her face again as she grew serious. "As for why, the reason is because I too have lost what is rightfully mine. My mother was the leader of our people until a greedy man ignited a revolt against her." Lenai was growing angry as she relived it. "They killed my father, tortured my mother, and imprisioned her. I do not know if they still keep her alive"

Like peas in a pod
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 00:41

Isaac listened to her tale. She had lost everything too. There were still doubts in his mind, but there was no one else to turn to. Not now anyway... He jumped at the reappearance of the dragon, but settled himself down quickly. He thought to himself for a minute. Remember. A fireball.

"I am Isaac. I am supposed to be a prince, but that doesn't seem to be true any more."

He was still nervous. He didn't know how much he could trust her.

"Why would you want to help me?"

Two are better than one
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 31 July 2006 00:53

Lenai took on a thoughtful expression. On the chair back behind her, Ember streched her white wings and gave a little yawn, showing tiny fangs. Lenai leaned back and crossed her arms. "Well, I suppose that two heads are better than one. If I can help you, maybe you can help me."

Lenai stood up and paced, Ember's eyes following her movements. "All I have is a dragon to help me, and where I come from that is not a big deal. I couldn't take back the throne simply with Ember. And you, you don't seem.." she didn't want to offend him, "experienced enough to fight back at the guards, right?"

"I'm not that weak with a blade. I got a couple of them..."

He thought for a moment. If he agreed to help her, he might have a better chance against the guards. If he didn't, he had nowhere to go, and his position wouldn't improve anytime soon.

"What do you have in mind?"
