Nearly there
by LemonPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 6 Aug 2007 14:48

Niles looked back at his younger companions as they continued on their trek to Reklah, then gave a small chuckle as Red wolfed down another loaf of bread. His estimates were quite accurate, they have just enough food and water to travel to Reklah. When his stomach suddenly grumbled, he took another bite from the loaf of bread in his left hand. Niles stopped the group and focused again on the weaves of magic. A light appeared in the distance.

"We're almost there," he informed the rest of the group. "Two more miles at most."

Suddenly, there was a change in the air around them and the light flickered. Niles raised his arms and summoned a barrier as sand storm brewed up. Then as suddenly as the storm came, it disappeared. The light reappeared in the distance, but Nile's face darkened

"Let's go."

The Meeting
by LemonPM MemberMember Profile on Sat, 11 Aug 2007 16:32

Three leagues from the city of Reklah, a peddler is trying to sell a panel of stained glass to the local abbot.

"Are you sure it's genuine?" the abbot asked.

"Of course," the peddler replied. "Made by the finest glassmaker in Nakhar."

"I don't know..." the abbot hesitated. "Very well, I'll take it. How much does it
cost?"

The peddler smiled. "Three crowns."

"Ah," the abbot fished around his pocket and took out a large gold coin. "I don't have that much on me at the moment. If you will hold on to this panel for me, I'll return to the abby to retrieve some more. Here's..."

Then suddenly, a shock wave spread from somewhere not far from their right, shattering the glass into several pieces. The peddler looked incredulously toward his now destroyed good.

"They are here..." the abbot whispered. Then noticing the peddler's still stunned condition, he continued, smiling, "Here's one gold crown. If you'll come with me to the abbey, I can give you the other two."

"Bu-but the glass..." the peddler studdered. "It's broken."

"We are going to have to cut it anyways," replied the abbot. "Come, let's go."

The peddler quickly started after the abbot.

"Thank you," he muttered.

The Tower of Magi come and goes with every meeting of the Valadrim. Constructed at the beginning of each meeting, it has long stood as a symbol of the power of the Valadrim for those few lucky enough to witness it. On the second level of the tower, are seats for the fifty archmagi, arranged in a great circle. In the middle of this circle, stood a man dressed in worn traveling attire. His features are hard and his eyes are chilling, but the slight smile on the corners of his lips seems to soften his expression somewhat.

"Speak your case, Niles the Talented," A voice boomed from a red robed wizard seated in

front of the man. "You have not been part of the order for more than ten years, but now you call us here. What is your reason?"

"War," Niles replied. "A great war is brewing in the North-West."

The wizard looked annoyed. "We already know of this war, but the affairs between states is none of our concern."

"But Stylexn - "

"You will address everyone in this room."

Niles paused. "Lord Archmagi of the Valadrim, this war is no ordinary war. The fate of the world may rest on the outcome of this war."

Another voice boomed from Niles' right. It came from a yellow robed soceress.

"What do you mean by this, Niles?"

"A prophecy," he replied. "The prophecy of the three demons is being fulfilled. As we speak, the demon Baxyierax is taking hold of the cities of Anon and Hanwen."

"The banished?" the soceress asked.

"Is safe," interupted a blue robed soceror.

Niles shook his head. "Even so, the Valley may not survive long enough for the banished to return. On top of that, I have reason to believe that the demon has sent his spawns to revive the Leviathan."

"What do you want us to do?" a brown robed mage asked.

"Appoint magi to help relieve the situation in the Valley. And -"

"What?"

"Allow me to use the Staff of Magi so that I may destroy his spawns."

There was silence in the great hall. Then the red robed spoke up.

"We will discuss on it. You will be informed of our decision tonight."

Niles nodded.

"Yes," he said. Then he disappeared from the audience hall.

Red looked up as Niles exited the room. She had been waiting outside, naturally, as she was not a member of the Valadrim. Neither were the others, and they were there with her. The journey through the parallel universe, or whatever it had been, had tired her, and she had been sitting with her head in her hands. But she looked up expectantly anyway.

"Well? What did they say?" she asked Niles as he walked out.

Not much help
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 12 Aug 2007 00:57

Dart looked up hopefully as well trying to figure out what was happening. Before an answer was given a blue robbed mage stepped out and lightly tapped Niles head with his staff. It was Kanal. "I think you shouldn't worry. If you noticed we were missing someone. I sent young Azareth to aid the the group I was escorting. Some of us are working with you."

Kantal paced back and forth for a moment. "Let them do what they want. There are three powerful mages in the north, not far from here. We should seek them out. The Valadrim won't help in this, and you know it, so it is up to a few of us now."

Kantal smiled innocently. "I have to meet the Dragon Tamer Princess in Tirluna, and I'll send Azareth north from there."

"Well met, Kantel, I see age has continued to be kind to you." Niles laughed.

Niles placed his hand under his chin to consider what the blue robed mage told him.

"Azareth," Niles repeated. "He's a good lad. Well, it will be hard to fight the spawns without the Staff of Magus, but it's not impossible. Let's just hope that the Valley will survive long enough for them to return..."

Then he turned around and gestured to the other three.

"The girl is Reshana, the boy is Jun, and the half-elf is Dart," he began. "The boy and the girl both have the most Talent I've seen in decades. They have been under my guidance up until now."

Niles paused.

"The half-elf seems to have the ability of Beast Magic but I have not been able to help him in anyways due to my lack of knowledge in this Art. Now, I know your people detest half-bloods, but I know you cannot be that kind of a person. Will you share will him some of your knowledge on Beast Magic?"

Kantal smiled and looked at Dart. "There are three types of Beast Magic. Speech, Transformation, and Talent. Speech allows you to communicate with some creatures. Transformation usually is found among vampires, werewolves, etcetera. They turn into an animal. The Talent trait is the rarest of all. Those with Dragon Talents can breath fire."

Dart nodded taking in what he could, but it was useless to him. He needed to know his past, not his magic. Before he could speak Kantal continued with Niles. "Now, Niles. The time has come for us to act. Seek out the three I mentioned. One seems to have figured out some forbidden air techniques, another is deeply connected with nature, and the other seems to have been somewhat secretive, but I met someone a lot like him. They will be a great asset to your cause." He took a couple of steps away. If you'll excuse me, I have to take care of something. Look for me later if you wish to continue this discussion."

Not worthy
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 19 Aug 2007 23:02

Red was sitting off to the side, with Jun, feeling a bit of a nuisance. Here she was, at a meeting of the most powerful mages in all the land. She didn't feel at all worthy to be here.

But she kept attention to everything Niles and the blue-robed mage, Kantal? were saying. She looked back toward the doors of the meeting hall, wondering if someday she would sit behind them.

But first things first, there was apparently a demon to track down and stop from doing...something. Red still wasn't clear on that point.

Mage Hunting
by LemonPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 20 Aug 2007 13:04

Niles smiled and turned around.

"That Kantel," he murmured to himself. "Always coming and going so fast.."

Then he noticed the look on Red's face.

"Don't worry about it," he smiled gently. "If someone with your Talent can't become Valadrim, I don't know who can. That Azareth Kantel mentioned, he has less than half the Talent you have, yet he still became a Valadrim. Remember, if you work hard, there is nothing you can't do."

Niles turned to lead the way out of the tower.

"Let's go, we have three mages to hunt down."

Atop a Eagle
by LemonPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 18:17

Despite Niles' insistence on traveling north via the portal, his companions did not seem to have a pleasant opinion on that place. So several hours later, after much preparation, they are found atop Dart's eagle traveling towards the port town of Krinsa. Niles sat pouring over a map of the world, then, seemingly tired of his task, he put it away and turned toward Dart.

"I'm not acquainted with traveling by air. How long do you estimate it will take to reach our destination? Two? Three days?"

Dart vs. Rath
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 22:03

Dart looked at Niles and shook his head. "We have another goal first, remember? Kantal wanted us to find some allies near here." He closed his eyes and felt out around him. Dart could sense magic, and talk to birds. Beyond that he had no magical ability. Kantal said they were looking for three mages of great power, and as they traveled, Dart would find three, and sometimes two. He'd been tracking them. "We've almost caught up to them."

About an hour later, in the southern plains, a few walking days from Reklah, Dart found them. He urged the bird to head down. A pin of light shot towards them. Dart watched for a moment and pulled out his bow. He shot an arrow into the one heading for the eagle. The arrows collided and Dart had them land faster. He leaped off of the bird gracefully and his bow was drawn ahead of them were two magical presences. There was an odd woman, and a nomad. The nomad had his bow drawn, and their eyes locked.

Dart and Rath stood their ground. Neither blinked, and neither moved. Time stopped around them. Dart felt the air shifting around him and dove to the side releasing an arrow along the way. The air was released as Rath dove to the side to avoid the arrow. Another was drawn back instantly by Dart as he rushed forward. Rath released an arrow, and Dart timed his to knock aside Rath's . As they closed in on each other bows were dropped, and swords were drawn. Steel rang as it clashed in front of the two groups of people. Dart felt himself getting pushed back. He wasn't much of a swordsman.

Something clicked. Dart felt his body change, his mind started black out his surroundings, and everything that was left slowed down around him. He parried a strike and dropped the sword as he jumped backwards immediately afterwards. He picked up the bow, drew back an arrow and released it. It was accurate enough. The arrow missed the moving Rath's face by an inch, and he stopped. In the effort to avoid the arrow Dart had closed in on him and now had an arrow tip inches from his heart. "Stand down. We didn't want to fight to begin with." In Dart's mind there was one thought. He had definitely known how to fight.

Tensions
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 25 Sep 2007 23:34

The girl with the long blonde braid peeked out from behind Rath. She might have appeared afraid. But what really showed on her face was concentration. It wasn't visible, but the earth behind her was firmly locked in her mental grip, ready to be shot toward the new attacker. She locked eyes with the girl with the messy, flaming red hair. She looked to be about the same age.

Shena and Red stared at each other for a moment. Red still wasn't used to her powers. She knew that she might lose control if she tried to fight with them just yet. The blonde-braided girl stared her down. Finally Shena spoke, to Dart.

"If you aren't here to fight, then lower your weapon. We also don't wish a fight," she said hopefully, glancing sideways at Rath. Though one of us might.

A legend...or not
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 00:59

Dart lowered his bow and looked at the two people. "There are supposed to be three of you...according to Kantal." He stepped back and Rath seemed to ease a bit. It may have been more, but there were other things to consider. We were told the three of you could help us in our journey, however there are only two of you now.

"Who are you?" Rath interrupted Dart. He wasn't about to do anything for someone he didn't know.

Dart shrugged. "I'm Dart." There was nothing else he could say.

Rath studied Dart an then stepped back. "Shena. There's nothing we can do here. Even the nomads know of Dart the half-elven and his great eagle." Rath seemed to have been tamed or was showing an unusual amount of respect, it was hard to say. "You are him, aren't you? The man from the war between Reklah and Tirluna? I hear that bow has killed hundreds on the battlefield." Fascination was in Rath's voice.

Dart looked at him, slightly confused. "You might have me mistaken for someone else. There's no way I could be a legend. I don't fit the part. I'm a traveler who just learned how to fight well."

Something hidden
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 26 Sep 2007 01:10

Red's eyes were on Dart's back. "You don't know that for sure," she said quietly. "For all you know, you could very well be who this man thinks you are."

She stood up and climbed clumsily off the eagle to the ground. Shena shifted her confused gaze from Dart to Red. The man was certainly someone to be reckoned with. But there was something she couldn't quite place about the girl. Or the boy on the eagle for that fact. They looked rather docile. But there was something hidden. Now Shena saw that the girl was taller than her.

"I'm called Red," she used her common name. "This is Jun and Niles," she said a bit shyly.

Shena nodded slowly, and relaxed the earth behind her. "I'm Shena. This is Rath."

Dart shrugged again. "I'm nothing special," he said instinctively to Red. "We were asked by a man named Kantal to seek out three magic users, you two and your missing friend, who could help us in turning tides against an evil presence ina growing war to the north...or something like that. We're supposed to find some demon or such and kill it. I have no idea how or why though. Niles knows everything." He felt some of the lands and airs shift. Clearly they were magic users.

Niles continued to lie on the eagle as the companions climbed down one by one. But when Red and Jun slid off, the great bird shook his body, causing the mage to roll down onto the ground.

"Can't a man sleep in peace?" Niles shouted towards the eagle, apparantly not a bit concerned that the bird might not understand him. Then he turned toward the two new people. "I presume you two are of the three mages Kantel spoke of? I'm Niles, and this -"

He felt a tug from his sleeve and turned toward Jun.

"What do you want, boy? Can't you see I'm introducing us?"

There was another tug and Niles irritatedly crunched down and Jun whispered in his ears. When he stood up again, there was a look of embarassment on his face.

"I see Red's already introduced us, eh? So what are your names? And how come there's only two of you?"
