Speed from the descent into the gravity well located sector finally ebbed south of the Utahtah system. Anchored a weak particle stream and made for Dastar. It's not quite as nice as Nowa' but for the time being its growing into a temporary base of operations. If a lonely one at that.

The black has been quiet. I've been debating putting some kind of music on for about two hours. Leaving log entries like this disturbs me more.

Nothing new to report other then a lift in spirits. Course passed by a unoccupied garden system to explore while in sensor range. Mostly plants. Lots of plants. I scanned for signs of life and only found scattered vulcoinian signatures. Not sure from the sensor readings if that spelled humanoid vulcoinians or the more floatee energy ghosts I've encountered in the past. Irregardless I put Soraya on landmark recognition protocol 18. Her report came during dinner. Exactly 56 meters of one of those garden planets was heavily populated with Vulcoinan Chipmunk looking creatures. A time in which chipmunk looking creatures existed on the Vulcoinian homeworld was 210,000 years ago. This of course Soraya explained to me... meant... that every chipmunk on that garden planet' in that narrow 56 meter ecosystem where they could live... was a carrier of the Lulhuptz Virus. Either that or Soraya the ship's Ai really doesnt want any chipmunks living on the ship so she made up a plauge they could all be carrying.

Woke to a dream of pregnant chipmunks. Miss Sajaval informed me that she'd made parts faster then expected in the Ship autoshop. Spent the day working on a robotic tank assistant for use on Dastar III. Haven't named the fellow yet or discovered much about its personality yet.

The system is still a few days away. Dastar VIII is habitable with large oceans and land which is more spongy coral then land. On my previous visit I dropped off a station segment and dome similar to Panacea. Used some stone I'd cut off a asteroid to build a foundation. That was a fun couple hours. Used the ship's rays and some hovering probes to play mason with blocks I could never lift alone.

Had so much fun on the station foundation that I went and got more stone. A day later had a fancy long stone shed with corrugated metal walls. The station's support column ultimately took more time then anything else on my new little island. Three days extracting and purifying ore into a stack of a thousand half meter square by 12 meter billet rods. Half a day conversing with Soraya on how to best use ship rays to forge weld and erect 6/12 wide pipes made from the billets.

Any engineer reading this should not do the math. As once the rods were welded they were forced by rays thru a die to extrude them. This made the outer surface a square grooved column and the interior surface much much more complicated. Rings were set in the interior for instance at intervals of 8ft which would later serve for level floor hatch seals. Grooves on one side every 18" for foot holds. The list goes on' pipes for wiring, air and fluids. All built into the a series of machined dies which the giant 6 1/2 meter pipe was heated and forced thru. Firing a simulated laser a bit less then 100 meters into the island was a thought. I chickened out in the end after a few shallow pot shots at neighboring land. Ultimately it was more like driving a tack into a peice of cork... only the tack's business end was a 100 meters long.

During a break in that construction I checked the shallow holes I'd cut earlier to find them healed over. I was not eager to don the role of scientist so I tapped Soraya to search OOO Archives and suggest some tests to determine recognizable characteristics of similar lifeforms. That lead me into of course donning the role of scientist and doing some field research and setting up some experiments. I was already committed to my island. I was prepared to dance a bit to keep the plan together.

Turns out that the composite metal I was using would not cause any rejection by the spongy corral organism. The simulated laser shots into the material had allowed light to pass into the hole and the organism had used that light to grow. Fairly quickly healing the hole.

If I was more of a scientist or had one with me... alot more time in the lab would have ensued. With the situation in hand I moved on' and left with the station in readiness for the next visit.
