Valadrim
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sat, 23 June 2007 13:14

(OOC: Continued from The Demon )
* * * * *
"All of this talk of worlds, mages, and great beings, one would think you are a Valadrim." Dart was joking, but when he saw Niles' eyes he knew he'd been right.
He looked around, and then whistled loudly. The great eagle came down quietly. He seemed to stare at it for a while, but was having a conversation with it. Then he looked at the others. "He says he'll fly us if you can spare him some water half way through. He doesn't eat much and it could speed up our journey."

Somewhere in the south
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 3 July 2007 14:55

Rath watched as the last of the bandits died without knowing what hit them. A slow airless death. He sheathed his sword and then closed his eyes in thought. Finally he opened his eyes with a sigh, and went to work taking the money that the bandits had on them. After a couple of bodies were searched for coins he looked over at Shena. "You're getting pretty good Shena. A lot of improvement since we started." He ignored any reaction from her. He rarely complimented her, so it was probably a surprise. After he had collected the various coins he removed any working arrows from the bodies that he could. One was useless so he tossed it aside.

What time was it? Looking up at the sky it was still several hours before dawn. They could still cover more ground. "Hey Fuge, you sure this is the right way to Reklah?" He'd never been out here, so they were following his directions.

RE: Valadrim

Niles looked at the great eagle once before saying his reply.

"It won't work. The flow of magic is very intricate in the world of Nether, riding on him will get us lost very fast. Plus," he indicated to the sacks of food. "He might not eat much, but believe me when I say those sacks are barely able to support us."

Niles turned to look at the shimmering air before him.

"Come on, we haven't the time," he said as he stepped through into another world.

A large boulder fell back to the earth with a crash, having been released from it's holding spell. Shena's arms also fell back to her sides, and she sat down heavily on the ground, catching her breath. She threw Rath a look of tired surprise, but he was not looking, so she looked back down, and closed her eyes. She had mostly gotten used to the fighting over the months of training, and occasional skirmishes with bandits. Her earth and water sorcery and magery had indeed greatly improved, though she had made minimal progress with air, and zero with fire.

She caught her breath and looked up for Fuge, wondering why on earth they were headed so far south anyway. There was a great disturbance in the land, she knew that much, but it was mostly in the northwest. Why weren't they headed that way?

Another world
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 3 July 2007 18:23

Dart looked back at his bird friend and sighed. "Sorry pal. I'll meet you in Reklah." The eagle understood and took off with a loud screech. It flew off towards the south. Figuring he had nothing to lose, or nothing he could remember to lose, he followed Niles into another world. For a short moment he glanced at Red to see if she would follow, but didn't glance long because shortly after everything around him seemed to change.

RE: Another world

The boy waited until everyone else had entered the portal before going through himself. There was a cool gush of air and the world around him began to change. In an instant the world settled into a totally different landscape. Looking behind him, he saw that the portal had closed.

Jun couldn't help but gasp at the great wasteland stretched before him. He had been in the world of Nether once, but that still wasn't enough to contain his bewilderment. The boy looked toward his master. The mage had begun a low chant and threads of magical energy began to swirl around him. The chanting took a while, but when it was done, the threads of magical energy subsided and the mage walked over to the boy.

"Take a loaf of bread and give two to the others as well, it should help sate your hunger. The journey will be quite long."

Jun nodded and took out three loaves of bread, giving one to Red and Dart, then keeping one for himself. After that, Jun quickly followed Niles as the mage set off to their right, couldn't help but noticing that the mage had produced a piece of bread from his sleeves.

On the way
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 4 July 2007 17:11

Red had stepped in just before Jun, and stood equally astonished at the space she had come into. She was almost blinded for a moment. She only looked down when Jun pushed a loaf of bread into her hands.

Will I be able to do this someday? she thought in disbelief, watching Niles. What did it really take to be a Valadrim? She already knew she had the power to be one. She just had to learn to call on it and use it properly. Bagging the bread, she set off after the rest of them.

Type of magic?
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Wed, 4 July 2007 17:41

Dart looked around surprised that the wasteland was on an identical area as their world. As they followed Niles Dart decided to ask. "Is this a type of shadow magic? I heard once, from I don't know who, that people could jump through shadows and travel elsewhere in an instant." He looked around at the world again. "Or is this some other type of magic?"

The Weaves of Magic
by LemonPM MemberMember Profile on Thu, 5 July 2007 16:50

Niles did not falter his steps as he replied Dart's question.

"Our world is like a great tapestry, woven by threads of what we call magic. The practitioners of magic: mages, sorcerers, necromancers, and druids, they have the ability to take these threads and change them to their will. Sometimes, there are notches in the tapistry, threads who won't follow the pattern; they are named as gods and demons and takes the form of great and powerful beings. From them, paladins and priests may draw power...if they gain their favour.

"Each of the threads of magic correspond to a different element which we have named them: earth, fire, water, air, etc. The use of one type of magic that is beyond these different element is called Lygokinesis. The practitioners of Lygokinesis draws their power from the seams that holds the tapestry together. It is the most difficult type of magic to master and overusage of it can damage the world - which is why it was often forbidden."

Here, the mage stopped and took a bite of the bread before he continued.

"Anyway, users of Shadow Magic fold time and space like it was a piece of parchment, thus appearing from one place to another instantly. However, the magic is very tiring and the user can only travel small distances at a time. Travelling through different worlds is somewhat different from Shadow Magic. Whereas Shadow Magic folds the tapestry, this magic slips allows us to slip through the seams and fall onto another layer with a different layout of patterns in the thread."

by fuge_spazzPM MemberMember Profile on Thu, 5 July 2007 20:05

Fuge looked tiredly at the rising sun, and sighed. "it is once again time for me to take my leave untill the sun dissapears. Keep going wolf and I will catch up." With that Fuge and the wolf dissapeared into the shadows of a tree.

Not used to it
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sat, 7 July 2007 15:34

Rath shook his head and sighed. "No matter how many times he does that, I never get used to it." He looked at Shena. "I guess we keep going." Rath contented himself to scouting from the skies while they walked.

RE: Not used to it

Shena watched Fuge disappear again, and nodded slowly to Rath, getting up. Her muscles ached. Training had been difficult over the past few weeks, though Rath and Fuge were good teachers. Her sorcery had greatly improved, and she had learned to use magery as well. Some magery, at least. Still she could not sustain a flame, and she somehow knew she never would.

With a sigh she stood up tall and walked after Rath. No longer did she walk slightly behind him, but next to him. She had grown in confidence as well, but was not cocky.

Once they left the bandit's bodies behind, she felt a bit better, and breathed easier. "So, how much farther to Reklah? Or, do you even know why we're going there in the first place?"

Fate???
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Tue, 17 July 2007 23:35

Rath was silent for a moment, and then looked at Shena. "I guess we just keep following the main road. That's all I can think of. As to why..." His thoughts drifted back to their continual trials. Every time they picked a direction they would take a stick, toss it into the air, and head in the direction it pointed. Yet no matter what they did, no matter how many different sticks they used, it always pointed south. "Maybe this is fate. I'm not much of a believer since I've tossed my fate to the winds, but I think we might be needed this way."

Young
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 July 2007 22:08

Shena watched Rath to see if he was going to say more. But when it was apparent he was not going to, she gave a small grunt and returned her eyes to the path. Fate? she thought scoffingly. Fate was something in children's stories.

Some would call you a child still, said a teeny voice in her head. She shook the thought from her mind. So she was young. So what? She had lived alone in Relwen for half her life. She had been through more than most children had been through.

That didn't mean she was proud or cocky. On the contrary. Rath made sure of that. He had even told her so, a while after they first met.

Trying
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 July 2007 22:55

Rath looked over at Shena again. "In all of this time that you've been trying to learn magic, have you ever used it to look back at your forest home?" Since Shena had been trying harder to tolerate him, he'd tried a bit harder to avoid the insulting tone and looks, and tried general conversation...if he could. "I thought you might, and if not you can always give it a try if you're a bit homesick."
