RE: RE: Patch up

Rath didn't look at her. She was right in some ways.

"Depends. I can tell you grew up quickly. I did the same thing. However, in magic and journeies, you're barely able to walk. So, I treat you like an adult except when you push yourself too much or mess up."

He laughed.

"Unfortunately I can't do anything about you being a klutz."

He looked around at the surroundings, and became more serious, and understanding.

"Leaving your home is always difficult at first. After a while, you get used to it. Who knows. If you progress well enough, maybe you can learn some basics in air magic. Then you could really protect this place."

Two elements
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 20:50

"I'm only a sorceress, not a mage." Shena shrugged. "I really think that all Relwen gave me was earth and water. I've tried air and fire a few times, but nothing happened. And I feel weak around fire, like it could burn me more easily than others."

She kicked a stone accidentally, and picked her feet up more as they walked. "But whatever I can learn about earth and water would help."

"My people were able to protect this place for hundreds of years." She sighed. "I'm the only one of my line who could use magic, and I still couldn't protect it properly."

She suddenly raised an eyebrow at Rath. "You're actually trying to be nice to me, aren't you?" The corner of her mouth rose in a half-smile.

Possibilities
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 21:14

Rath laughed a bit.

"If I'm stuck with you I might as well try to be nice."

He paused for a moment and mumbled to himself.

"At least you have a home..."

The rock Shena had kicked began to float towards Rath and he pulled it out of the air. Then he threw it as far as he could.

"Sorry, but I'm useless in those elements. Maybe you'll be able to learn more once you're out of the forest for a while. You may not be able to learn because you are too close to the forest, and fear of hurting it is stopping you."

The edge
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 21:28

She watched the rock sail away. "Good throw," she muttered.

"I don't know...I think it's more like I'm like the forest. It's not that I'm afraid to practice it. I've tried. But fire would hurt me as it would a tree."

She shrugged again. "I guess that's true for anyone though...anyone can be burnt. But even being around it gives me an odd feeling."

Suddenly they came over a crest of a hill, and between the trees Shena could see the actual edge of Relwen. The shock made her stop walking. Open land lay beyond the green line, all the way to the horizon. Huge, vast openness...She had never seen anything like it before, her mouth hung slightly open.

First step is the hardest
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 21:49

Rath paused and looked at Shena. He couldn't help but laugh a little at her reaction.

"The first step is the hardest. Once you take it, you never know when you'll be on the same path again. You can stay here and hide in the woods, or you can keep walking and learn more than your people probably ever did."

Storm approaches
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 16 Oct 2006 22:32

Shena nodded dumbly, and conciously closed her mouth. She started walking down the other side of the hill. The view disappeared, but she knew that it would not be long until she left Relwen.

She knew Rath was right. Her people had never bothered to leave Relwen and see what was out there. They probably had no desire to interact with strangers, seeing as how outsiders frequently attacked them.

She marked how the light was growing dimmer. Clouds were coming in from the east. She thought they looked like stormclouds. Great, she thought, once we're out there, there won't be any trees for shelter.

RE: Storm approaches

Rath shook his head. A storm. If he could only have mastered those winds. Then he'd finally have full control over the weather. He looked at Shena for a moment.

"How about we wait at the very edge of the forest where we'll still have cover. Then if it lets up by morning, we can move to a nearby village."

He looked at the clouds again. Such inconvenient timing. He hoped it was only a coincidence.

End of Relwen
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 00:44

Shena nodded gratefully. "That sounds like a good idea."

So they walked for a while longer, until Shena saw that beyond the trees in front of her, there were no more. Once more she stopped. This was it. The edge of the vast forest she called home.

She could see the winds whipping the prairie grass around in the open terrain. She shivered, and was grateful they had decided to wait out the storm in the shelter of the trees.

She moved to lean against a tree, feel its comfort against her for the last time until a while. Her gaze was just staring out to the South.

A way to keep dry
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 01:00

Rath leaned against a tree and looked south. Almost like where he once lived, the winds blew freely, and the rain started. He looked towards Shena.

"Time for a new lesson."

He moved the winds around him so the rain never touched him, keeping him dry.

"See what I'm doing? It isn't that much different with water."

He listened to the winds for a moment and continued.

"The challenge is learning to keep the rain like this while you sleep. Give it a try."

Movement needed.
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 01:08

Shena watched him for a moment, then pushed away from the tree so she could get better movement.

She moved her arms around, but mostly twisted her wrists in smooth motions. The water cascaded around her, veering away from a point directly over her head. She smiled, only damp from the first few drops.

But her arms were growing a bit tired. And sleep? How was she supposed to do this without moving her arms? So far she had only been able to use her sorcery with movement.

She let her arms fall in defeat, the rain soaking her head and long hair. Sighing, she looked to Rath. "I don't know how." She put her hood up to try and salvage some of her dignity.

Mind over...motion
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 01:23

"It's all mental. You don't need to move. Think about the motions in your mind if it helps. After a while you won't even need to think about the motions, and can hopefully set things, like that, toin place to stay while you need them."

Rath paused for a moment in his dry space and sighed.

"The rain looks heavy. You can try again later."

He moved the winds over Shena to keep her dry too.

"Like I said earlier. You have a lot to learn."

Start small
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 17:01

Shena rolled her eyes.

"Yeah. So I've heard."

She was grudgingly grateful for his wind over her though. At least she would be dry for the remainder of her time in Relwen. She sat down against the tree and sighed, trying to keep herself from looking out to the empty lands.

To pass the time she just did simple little exercises with the rain that fell near her. She held it still in a sheet of water, and traced images in it. No images in particular, just whatever she thought of. But then she tried to do it without moving her hands. It did not work.

Okay, start small, she thought. She held up her hand, holding a few raindrops stationary in the air in front of her. Then she focused her mind on them, slowly withdrawing her hand. They stayed! She smiled and blinked...then they dropped.

"You'll get there."

Rath tried to offer a reassuring smile, but it was difficullt to even think about and gave up quickly.

"Relax. It's really difficult to learn anything when you're tense or over excited."

He spun the winds among the rain and created a small water tornado.

"What you can do shouldn't surprise you."

Mixing feelings
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 22 Oct 2006 23:05

Shena watched the little water tornado in the air, and nodded again. She just did not feel like talking. The sound of rain on the leaves and ground around her was making her feel odd. She felt resfreshed, but sleepy at the same time.

She wondered if this feeling had to do with her new connection with her surroundings. The rain was refreshing the forest, and she felt it in her. But her own body was sleepy, so it made for an odd mix.

Because they were just sitting there, waiting out the storn, eventually her sleepiness won over. She fell asleep against the tree.

Cautious sleeping
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 23 Oct 2006 21:16

Rath laughed to himself when Shena fell asleep. Poor woman. He knew everything she was feeling about leaving all too well. Finally, he leaned back against a tree and started to drift into sleep. He slept lightly knowing they weren't completely out of danger yet.
