Shena jumped and spun around when she heard the thud, but relaxed when she saw it was Rath. Then she felt her face turn red, but was glad it was dark. "I'm not so upset," she muttered, knowing he'd probably tell it was a downright lie, and avoided eye contact. "I guessed you left because I annoyed you and invaded your space, and never got a chance to really apologize to you properly. I thought you might not listen anyway." Still, though she felt slightly awkward, she was really glad to see him and that he was talking to her.

Rath laughed and walked up to her. "It's alright. You're right about me not listening. Sorry about leaving. I stormed off, and thought walking back might be kind of awkward." He sighed and studied her more closely. She was avoiding eye contact. He wanted to get more of a reaction out of her. It seemed like she was embarrassed or avoiding him. "I'm still not sure I'm ready to come back yet..."

Shena looked up at him, frowning slightly. Had she really screwed up so badly that he didn't want to travel with them anymore? "Why not?" she muttered. But then quickly shook her head. "No, nevermind, you don't have to answer that. I'm done intruding on your personal space," she added quietly, grinning softly. Well... maybe one more time. Now that he was closer she quickly stepped up and squeezed him in a brief hug. "Thanks for at least letting me know you're still out there."

Rath stood there stunned for a moment. Affection of any sort was still rather new to him, so he quickly took a step back. He stared at Shena, and then after a moment smiled and stepped closer again. "It's alright. I'm just doing some personal training, so don't worry. I'll even keep watching over you like earlier today." He hugged her back and then stepped away. "Take care of yourself. I'll always be nearby." With that he drew the winds around him and started off into the trees, leaving only the cool night behind for a few moments before warm wind wrapped around Shena again.

Shena let him go when he ceased hugging her, and stepped back. A brief look of shock crossed her face; she had perhaps suspected that he had a part in the killing of those thieves earlier that day, but it was still a surprise. She watched him disappear, eyes still fixed on the spot as the warm breeze came back and tugged at her braid. Without having to hug her arms around her for warmth, the young sorceress walked back to the camp and took her place on the ground by Red's side, laying down and looking up at the constellations between clouds.

Taking care of herself seemed to be an issue these days. What with bandits trying to harm her, and causing a friend to leave the group for a long time, she figured she was not doing so well at that... at anything. Tomorrow she would get in some hard practice. With that thought... she slowly drifted to sleep.

Day off
by DartPM MemberMember Profile on Sun, 4 Jan 2009 11:07

Scion showed up early that morning and nudged Red awake as usual. "Good morning. You get to take the day off today." He figured that she'd be annoyed that he woke her up early to tell her she could sleep in, so it was after telling her this that he gave her something. "I can't have my student getting sick or anything." In his hands was a thick cloak sized for Red. It was perfect for the coming cold weather, though she'd be hard to find if she wore it when it was snowing as the cloak was a light gray color. "Tomorrow you should get some new clothes too. They take longer to make. The gray is because of your magic. Shadows and light. Black and white. Mix them together and you get gray."

Red started slightly as Scion nudged her awake, but merely rolled over so she could look up at him sleepily. She blinked a few times before she realized what he was saying. She could have the day off? A brief expression of aggravation crossed her face before he spoke again, catching her off guard.

"Black and white," Red repeated, sitting up fully now and taking the cloak from him. She held it in her arms like a treasure. It was thicker and much nicer than the one she already had, the one she had gotten after meeting Dart. That was was dirty, but this one might hide her if they got up north to the snow... "Thank you," she murmured, looking back at him with true gratitude. "For the gift, and for the day off."

Scion nodded and was gone shortly after. He left Red to her new cloak and to get back to sleep with the others. He had other things to do today.

Roric slipped over beside Red and offered a smile a minute after Scion left. He sat down on the ground beside Red, and Rahl glided down beside him. "Looks like he really treats you as a student. You'll be a powerful mage yet." He looked off to the distance to see the faint rays of light just poking over the horizon. He hoped they could get some real traveling done today.

Red looked to her side at Roric as he spoke. Her eyes flicked to Rahl as he glided down. Did he really think that? She wasn't so sure of what that Valadrim person had said earlier, that she was meant to become that great of a mage. Hugging the cloak to herself, she knew she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep now, and she followed Roric's gaze to the horizon. "Is that strange that he treats me as a student? I suppose he's not very open..."

Roric shrugged. "Well, you're his first student, so I guess it is a surprise." He reached out and felt the cloak. "He sure takes better care of you than I'd thought he would." He sighed. "Dart says you're learning at a remarkable pace. Between your raw skill, and his teaching, you'll be a force to be reckoned with really soon. So, how're you holding up? I know you're pushed hard every day."

Red glanced down at the ground and shrugged modestly. "Holding up fine," she answered. In truth, it was probably the best thing she could have wished for at the moment to be given a day away from learning, even though they hadn't been going for many days. Each day in Scion's office was draining, though she hardly let herself show it.

"I'm glad you all think I'm worth teaching," she added, looking up again. "I know it was a different choice I made... learning from Scion in exchange for vowing to never become one of the Valadrim. As for being a force to be reckoned with... Sometimes I only want to see the look on Sinat's face if he ever finds me again," she muttered.

Roric chuckled. "You work under his nose, and Scion's going to teach you light magic. I think you can have all of the fun in the world when you learn how to use it." He stood and stretched a bit. "Got a preference for breakfast," he asked. Rahl took to the air and was ready to go hunt.

Winter
by Shadow and LightPM MemberMember Profile on Mon, 23 Mar 2009 12:12

Red scratched the back of her neck briefly, trying to decide what her rumbling stomach wanted. "I dunno, whatever Rahl can catch. Maybe... rabbit sounds good," she muttered. At that moment Shena woke up and grumbled something about defenseless animals that Red didn't quite catch, but the comment was not enough to put the thought of a hot meal out of mind.

Shena sat up and seemed quite more relaxed this morning, reaching up to redo her messy braid. As she did, the rays of the sun on the cloud-free horizon shone brightly on the undersides of the thick clouds that were hanging over their stretch of land, creating a spectacular effect. It was then that Red realized little white flakes were falling from the sky, almost unnoticable except when they caught the sun. It had begun to snow. They were far enough north, and the winter solstice was only a couple weeks away. Red pulled her new cloak tighter around her.

Roric nodded and sent Rahl off. The little dragon liked to hunt the fast creatures. It was like training for the dragon. Meanwhile his tamer looked up after the first flake landed on his nose. He stirred the fire and got it to burn stronger while he waited for the dragon to return.

Dart slept beside Arynn and subconsciously edged closer to the elf. He tightened his arm around her too in an attempt to get more warmth.

Meanwhile, a warm wind wrapped around Shena again, and seemed to deflect the snow flakes around her. It was a sign that Rath was somewhere nearby and had his senses in the sky.

When the black dragon returned, it had a trio of rabbits and left two with Roric before taking off with the third for himself.
