RE: Wondering, Waiting

Byr let out a low growl again. "That's just the problem! There was a trace of magic, but no one was missing. There is only a small handful of prisoners in there, and all of their presences were still there as well. There was an entry, and magic was used in there. It's hard to mistake the aura of magic."

He was quiet for a moment. Turning thoughts over in his head, he decided he couldn't do anything yet. He settled down. "Just look into it. I'm not sure who could enter that room, but they managed to get by two guards and in the only entrance to the prison. Something happened, and I want to know what." He paused once more and took a deep breath. "Get more guards over there as well, and a mage if we have any available."

Lord Sinat watched Byr rant in frustration and raised an eyebrow. But he nodded slightly to the Advisor. "I will look into it," he murmured, then looked Byr in the eye. "If you don't mind me asking, Advisor Byr, but why is this of such concern to you? If none of the prisoners escaped, then that was clearly not the aim of the intruder."

Byr stared at him like he was crazy. "How can it not be a concern?" He sighed in exasperation. "Doesn't it strike you as odd that someone would go through the trouble of breaking in, and not doing anything. Someone was up to something. They may have been after information. Whoever it is, we need to watch before we find ourselves with another enemy."

Lord Sinat inclined his head again. "Yes, you are right," he said. "We will try to find out what happened. And more guards will be posted, including mages to strengthen the magic defenses."

He sighed inwardly. "If there's nothing else you wanted to see me for, then I will take my leave." Sinat nodded briefly and turned to the door, exiting. Outside the door he paused, looking at the floor briefly, and frowning again. He walked down the stairs, needing to pay Scion a visit.

Scion had barely settled into his office when he heard a knock at the door. He opened it to find Sinat standing outside. "Lord Sinat! What a pleasant surprise! Please come in." Scion stood aside and let the lord in. "Let's go to my office. We can talk there." He let the lord in to his office and offered him a chair. Scion sat on the desk. "What did you need my Lord?"

Lord Sinat came in and nodded to Scion as he sat in the chair offered to him. He glanced around briefly, noticing the girl was gone, but said nothing of it. "I just visited with Advisor Byr. Was called there, is more like it," he muttered. He put his fingertips together and looked up at Scion. "It seems someone was able to slip past the defenses in the dungeon. The only conceivable way for that to happen would be someone using magic, and very powerful magic at that. I've been asked to look into the matter," he informed him, crossing his leg over the other and fixing his gaze on him. "Have you heard anything of this incident?"

Scion looked at him curiously. He was unphased by the revelation and then shook his head. I was training the men this morning, and spent the better part of the afternoon with my student." He glanced out the office window and looked towards Byr's tower. "The Advisor Byr seems to know a great deal of things. I guess I'll give my student the day off tomorrow and spend more time with the men to learn a few things." He thought for a moment. "A strong magical being in town doesn't set well with me. I'd like to try to pick up some rumors. Guards talk."

He was silent as he turned his attention back to Sinat. "I'll drop by the mercenary guild as well. What do you think of the matter? You wouldn't have come to me, if you didn't have your own thoughts."

Suspicions

Sinat nodded quietly. "Yes that is acceptable. Thank you for agreeing to help me in this. But you are right, I had my own thoughts on the matter. I could not help but think immediately of you when I decided to seek help from someone with strong magical abilities, the same strength that one might use to get into the dungeon."

He gazed at Scion for a moment longer before he stood up again, clasping hands with Scion briefly. "Thanks again, and yes, looking into the mercenary guild would be a good idea. Keep me updated. I may just want to congratulate the man that ruffled Byr's feathers." He smirked slightly, and was out the door.

Scion smirked, and waited until Sinat was long gone. He would say nothing and do nothing to expose himself further. He now knew what Byr was capable of, and had no intention of drawing attention to himself. It was about time he turned in for the night.
